The OneLink Gap: Why Part of Your International Audience Never Gets Credited

Amazon OneLink covers just 13 countries — and five of the biggest international audiences are structurally out of reach. Here's what the gap actually is, and what it costs you.

If you're an Amazon Associates creator with any kind of international audience, you've probably heard that Amazon "handles" international traffic. The reality is more complicated — and for a meaningful slice of your viewers, it simply isn't true.

    What OneLink Actually Does

Amazon OneLink is Amazon's own geo-redirect tool. When an international visitor clicks your Amazon affiliate link, OneLink tries to send them to their country's Amazon store and attribute the purchase back to you. When it works, it's exactly what you want: the viewer lands on a store they can actually buy from, in their language, with local pricing.

The catch is coverage. OneLink works for exactly 13 countries: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, and the UK.

That list has a hard boundary, and it leaves out some of the largest audiences on YouTube.

    The Structural Gap

India, Brazil, Mexico, UAE, and China have no OneLink support at all. A viewer in Mumbai who clicks your link gets sent to whatever store your link points at — often a US storefront they can't easily buy from, or a generic page that loses them entirely.

This matters because these aren't fringe markets for creators. India alone is one of the largest YouTube audiences on earth. If 20% of your viewers are in the gap countries, roughly a fifth of your international click potential produces little or nothing — not because your content failed, but because the infrastructure between the click and the purchase doesn't exist on Amazon's side.

And unlike the eligible countries, this isn't something you can fix with configuration. No settings change, no tool setup, no amount of link optimization makes Amazon route an Indian buyer to amazon.in through OneLink today. It's a structural gap in Amazon's own tooling.

What You Can Do About It

For the 13 eligible countries, the fix is real and mostly mechanical: make sure every Amazon link you publish actually geo-routes (OneLink only works when it's correctly attached to your tracked links), and make sure you have approved Associates accounts in the marketplaces your audience actually shops from. A redirect to amazon.de earns you nothing if your German Associates application hasn't been approved.

A quick way to see how much this is worth for your channel specifically: our Amazon Link ROI Calculator estimates your recoverable commission from your audience geography. It also tests whether your existing links are already redirecting properly — sometimes part of the "opportunity" turns out to be already handled, and the calculator accounts for that rather than overstating your upside.

For the five structural-gap countries, honest answer: there's no clean fix on Amazon's side today. The value there comes from being aware of it — measuring it, mentioning alternatives where appropriate, and not letting it silently distort your expectations about international performance.

    Measure Before You Fix

The most common mistake we see is creators assuming their entire international audience is broken when usually it's split: one share OneLink can serve (if configured), and one share nothing can serve today. Those two numbers lead to very different decisions — which is why our calculator keeps them separate instead of blending them into one vague "international %" figure.

Run your numbers, check whether your links are actually routing, and fix what's fixable. That's the whole play.
